Cougars Explosive in Commanding Win Over Inferno

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- On a beautiful day at Concordia Stadium, the Cougars took on Alverno College. In the first half, Concordia-Chicago's offense rushed out the gates and put six goals on the board, before finishing with four second-half goals to run away with the dominant 10-0 win.

Striking early, in just the second minute of the match, senior captain Samantha Wozniak was able to score after getting the assist from Janette Moreno. Again, three minutes later, Esmeralda Torres was able to tack on the second Concordia goal of the afternoon, assisted by Sara Browne to make the game 2-0.

Keeping the pressure on, the Cougars withheld possession the majority of the first half with another sharp shot on goal from Wozniak. The Alverno goalie, however, made the strong effort to keep the score the same.

With her second of the afternoon, Torres netted another goal at the 35-minute mark of play, pulling away to a three-goal lead.

Sending the score to 4-0, Esther Annoreno fired a bullet from 30 yards out, that slipped in the upper corner of the net. With just over 30 to go in the half, the Cougars showed no signs of slowing down. In the 18th minute, Sara Browne tallied her third point of the afternoon, this time netting her own goal, assisted by Gabriella Wagoner, making the game 5-0.

CUC was able to score once more before the halftime break, when Arly Escamilla scored her first goal of the season off a diving shot, from a Sydney Rainey cross.
Coming out of the break, Torres secured the hat trick in her arsenal, as she recorded her third and penultimate goal of the day. Two minutes later she would score again, giving CUC an outstanding 8-0 lead. Over the final minutes of play, Wagoner and Paige Falkenstern would tally their own goals to secure CUC's 10-0 NACC win over Alverno.

With the win, CUC moves to above .500 in the NACC with a 3-2-1 conference record.

The next match for the Cougars is set for Saturday, October 12th against Marian University at 3 p.m.
