PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- In their second shutout victory of the 2019 campaign, the Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team moves to 2-2-1 in NACC play, thanks to a 4-0 win over Lakeland University this evening.
Overall, CUC dominated the match out shooting the Muskies 21-3. Keeper
Aleksia Vranjes earned the shutout win and second win of her career, and
Morgan Sims recorded one save in 14 minutes of work during her first collegiate game.
Janette Moreno wasted no time as she got the Cougars on the board in just the sixth minute of play thanks to a clean pass from
Samantha Wozniak.
CUC would continue to press the Lakeland defense while rattling off four shots over the next nearly 30 minutes of play. In the 34th minute, the Muskies threatened Concordia's lead however, as Muskie Tracey Sery sent an open shot wide and earned Lakeland their first corner kick of the contest.Â
While the Cougars were able to deflate the Muskies' scoring chance, CUC bounced back and netted its second goal of the game and second of
Kate Sullivan's career, from a
Sara Browne assist. Sullivan's goal extended CUC's lead to 2-0 heading into the halftime break.Â
Concordia-Chicago would duplicate its scoring efforts in the second half, when
Meghan Vasseur recorded a goal in the 70th minute of play. A strike from
Esther Annoreno set up Vasseur to tally CUC's third goal of the night. The offensive surge would not stop there either, as senior
Sydney Rainey managed to get into the mix with a goal of her own, her first of the season, with just five minutes remaining in the match.Â
Rainey's goal extended Concordia's lead to 4-0 and secured the conference road victory.
CUC will return to action this Wednesday at 3 p.m. inside Concordia Stadium to take on Alverno College.
