Cougars to Host Marian and Lakeland Over Homecoming Weekend

RIVER FOREST, ILL.— Looking to put an exclamation on the homecoming week, the Concordia University Chicago will play the two final home matches of the 2019 season on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Friday night will also be senior night for Concordia, as the team honors its three seniors prior to the match with Marian.
 Senior Spotlight: CUC will honor its three seniors prior to the match on Friday night. Jaylynn Johnson, Courtney Luciano and Shelby Spitz have been an integral part of the program over the past four years. The three were key contributors last season in making the programs return to the postseason for the first time since 2011.
 
About the Cougars: The Cougars come into the weekend 10-16 overall and 4-6 in the NACC. Last time out CUC defeated IIT on Tuesday night in four sets. Shannon Stamp had a season high 16 kills on the night while Kelly Gootee set a new career high with 41 assists in the win. Stamp leads the team with a .286 attack percentage which ranks just outside the top five in the NACC. Gootee has cemented herself as the team's setter and has recorded 40+ assists in the last two matches. He also recorded her fifth double-double of the season in the win over IIT. Alyssa Henline continues to be one of the top servers in the conference 51 aces on the season. As a team CUC matched a season high with 14 aces against IIT.
 
About the Sabres: The Marian Sabres are 5-17 overall and 2-7 in the NACC.  Last time out they fell in three sets to Concordia Wisconsin on Tuesday night. Freshman Monica Dreifuerst leads the team with 194 kills on the season. Sara Komosa is close behind with 173 kills this year. Senior Amber Yahr leads the team with 604 assists this season. She is also has 242 digs this season which is just behind their libero Jenna Skroski with 249.
 
About the Muskies: The Lakeland University Muskies come into the weekend 14-13 overall and 8-1 in the NACC. They are still in play for the NACC title with three matches to go in the regular season. They take on Dominican on Friday night before taking on CUC on Saturday. Their lone loss in the NACC came to CUW early in the season. Shannon Bishop and Abby Baumgartner lead the team with 329 and 265 kills this season respectively they both rank in the top five in the NACC in kills this season. Neenah Primas leads the team with 883 assists this season.
 
Up Next: The Cougars will close out the 2019 season on the road at the Warrior Invitational hosted at Wisconsin Lutheran College next Friday and Saturday.
