Cougars Head To WLC For Final NACC Road Test

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- With the 2019 NACC regular season hitting the final turn, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars head north to take on the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors in NACC action on Saturday afternoon. Including this match, CUC has just four NACC matches left this season.
 
Series History: The Cougars and Warriors have met 16 times since the 2003 season. CUC is 6-10 against WLC during this span. CUC however has won the last two matches between the two sides. The Cougars defeated WLC 3-0 inside Geiseman Gymnasium last season behind 14 Jaylynn Johnson kills. Johnson had a team high 15 kills the year prior when the Cougars pulled off a five set comeback victory at Wisconsin Lutheran.
 
About the Cougars: The Cougars enter Saturday 9-15 overall and 3-5 in the NACC. Most recently the Cougars lost a four set match to Edgewood on Saturday afternoon in Madison, Wisconsin. Offensively CUC is led by Alyssa Henline with 232.5 points this season. She leads the team with 177 kills and 46 aces this season. Johnson is close behind with 167 kills on the year. Kelly Gootee leads the way with 369 assists on the season. Defensively Julia Beers leads the way with 245 digs on the season. Henline is close behind with 224 digs this year. Shannon Stamp is the top blocker this season with 73 total blocks. CUC is top in the NACC in total blocks on the season and 25th in the country.
 
About the Warriors: The Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors come into the weekend 11-9 overall and 5-1 in the NACC. They will head to the south side of Chicago to take on IIT on Friday night before facing CUC on Saturday afternoon. Offensively WLC is paced by Grace Tomhave and Mercedes Pye with 157 and 155 kills respectively. Freshman Emily Sarles leads the team with 310 assists on the year. Defensively it's another freshman Ally Goba who leads the team with 350 digs on the season. She also leads the team with 32 aces.
 
Up Next: The Cougars will return home for three straight NACC home matches next week. They will host Illinois Tech on Tuesday night before closing out the NACC regular season with home matches against Marian on Friday and Lakeland on Saturday.
