Cougars Start Strong, but Fall to Scarlet Hawks

Chicago, Ill.- Concordia University Chicago (4-9-2; 4-3-1 NACC) traveled to take on Illinois Institute of Technology (7-5-2; 4-1-2 NACC). CUC looked to build on their three-game win streak against a red-hot Scarlet Hawks team. In the first half the Cougars controlled the tempo and led 1-0. Two second half goals would hurt Concordia-Chicago and IIT would steal a 2-1 victory.

Inside the Box Score:
  • IIT came into the game on a six-game win streak.
  • CUC had not allowed a goal in three games prior to the two-goal montage by the Scarlet Hawks.
  • Concordia-Chicago would lose for the first time ever versus IIT.

In the first half both teams were locked in on defense. The game flow limited any real chances at scoring for either team. Although both teams had scarce chances at scoring, Concordia-Chicago found a way to break into the score board. Sam Goodlett would find Esmeralda Torres streaking down the field for the Cougars' first goal of the match. No other goals would be scored in the first half and CUC would go into the half leading 1-0.

Illinois Institute of Technology did not go down easily. The Scarlet Hawks would wait until halfway through the second half to score, and they would score twice in under five minutes to take the 2-1 lead. From there, they would deny the Cougars of any scoring attempts and win 2-1.

Concordia-Chicago will look to bounce back Saturday, October 19th against Wisconsin Lutheran College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
