Cougars Dominate, Roll Regents

Rockford, Ill.- Concordia University Chicago (8-14; 2-4 NACC) took on Rockford University (6-14; 0-6 NACC) in a weekend NACC matchup. CUC came into the game with a 16-game win streak that dated back to 2005 against the Regents. Before their streak, the Cougars were 1-4 versus Rockford. CUC dominated throughout, not allowing the Regents to come close and won in straight sets (25-10, 25-14, 25-10)

Inside the Box Score:
  • CUC didn't allow Rockford to reach the 20's the whole match.
  • Concordia-Chicago doubled the Regents in kills throughout the match (33-16).
  • Julia Spitelli had another monster night with 11 kills, followed closely by Alyssa Henline (7).

Opening the first set, Concordia-Chicago opened up with a 7-2 lead. Julia Spitelli hammered in a kill right past the Regents defense to set fire to the CUC offense. From there, they would continue to dominate and win set one (25-10).

Although the Cougars started off hot in set one, they found themselves trailing in set two. After they gained back traction, they would take a 10-9 lead. From there, it was all CUC. A Regents timeout was forced with the score sitting 17-12. After an 8-2 run Concordia-Chicago took set two and put themselves in position to sweep.

Set three was the most ideal start a team could ask for. CUC led 9-0 after a Caroline Gibbons spike went off of the Rockford blockers' hands. Concordia-Chicago would lead as much as 12-0 before the Regents put points on the board. A dominant performance would be capped with a  dominant finish, and the Cougars brought home a 25-10 win in set three.

Concordia-Chicago will look ahead to tomorrow, where they will play Edgewood College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
