Cougar Women Continue Playoff Push At MSOE Saturday

RIVER FOREST, ILL.—After picking up a critical win on Wednesday night, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team hits the road looking for their third straight NACC win. The Cougars will head to the Kern Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering in an important NACC contest. This will be the only meeting between the two schools this season due to the unbalanced schedule.

Series History: The Cougars and Raiders have met 21 times since the 2007-08 season. MSOE holds a 12-9 advantage overall against CUC, but the Cougars have won the last four meetings. CUC is just 3-7 on the road in the series. The Cougars used a fourth quarter comeback to down the Raiders 61-59 inside the Kern Center last season. CUC then defeated MSOE 85-59 inside Geiseman later in the season.

About the Cougars: CUC heads to Milwaukee in the middle of a playoff push as January winds down. CUC currently sits just two games back in the loss column of Dominican and Edgewood who are tied for sixth place. The Cougars have been strong at home, winning their last four inside Geiseman. They will be looking to replicate the same results on the road starting at MSOE. Last time out CUC defeated Alverno on Wednesday night. CUC used multiple big runs offensively to pull away early. Michaela Thornton had a big night, finishing with 15 points and four rebounds. Crystal Corr had one of her strongest performances of the season, finishing with 12 points and nine boards. Sam Bloom continues to lead the Cougars offensively. Her 13.3 points per game average ranks in the top ten in the NACC. The Cougars rank first in the NACC in forced turnovers. They have forced 51 turnovers in the last two games, bringing their season average to 20.9 per game.

About the Raiders: The MSOE Raiders come in to the matchup with CUC looking to end a three game skid. They currently sit just a half game back of CUC in the NACC standings, and are still well alive in the playoff hunt. Most recently they fell by a final score of 57-39 on the road to Dominican. Senior guard Jamie Spanbauer leads the team with a 12.1 points per game average. Spanbauer had a big night the last time these two teams met in Milwaukee. The then junior scored 15 points and brought down 12 rebounds on the night. Rebounding has given the Raiders trouble this season, as they rank 12th in the NACC in the category.

Up Next:  The Cougars will continue their playoff push when they head to Edgewood College on Wednesday night. Opening tip is set for 7:00pm from Madison.
