RIVER FOREST, Ill. – After two tough road games in Wisconsin, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team returns to Geiseman Gymnasium for a NACC matchup with Illinois Tech. This will be the third ever matchup between the two programs. Illinois Tech is a first year member of the NACC.
Series History: This will be the first time the two schools will face off in conference play. CUC is 1-1 since 2001 against IIT. Their last machup came on December 4, 2004 inside Geiseman Gymnasium, where CUC defeated the Scarlet Hawks 80-57.
About the Cougars: The Concordia University Chicago Cougars look to rebound after two losses on the road this week. They do return to Geiseman where they have won their last two. CUC continues to be led this season by sophomore guard
Sam Bloom. She ranks in the top ten in the NACC with a 13.2 points per game average. She also ranks third in the NACC in steals per game (2.2). The Cougars have done a good job all season long giving their opponents a tough time defensively. CUC ranks first in the conference, forcing 20.2 turnovers per game. CUC also ranks in the top portion of the conference as they average 4.1 blocks per game.
About the Scarlet Hawks: The Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks are first year members of the NACC. They come in looking for their first win of the season. Most recently they fell by a final score of 85-35 to NACC leading Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday night. IIT is led by sophomore guard Shannon O'Donnell who is averaging 11.3 points per game on the year. O'Donnell is a top free throw shooter in the NACC, shooting just under 90 percent from the charity stripe. She is also the team leader in rebounds, bringing down 5.6 per game.
Up Next: The Cougars will return to the Geiseman floor on Wednesday night when they welcome NACC foe Alverno to Geiseman Gymnasium. CUC will then hit the road for the final two games before CIT which begins on Friday January 25
th in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
