MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team improves to 2-1 in conference play, after dominating the Alverno College Inferno this evening by way of 7-1.
Six different Cougars scored en route to the team's second conference win in as many match ups, including two newcomers who netted their first career goals.
How it Happened:
The first half appeared to be a stalemate between the two NACCÂ foes, until sophomore
Alexis Jones broke through in the 40th minute of play, netting a cross from
Brianna Welch past Alverno's keeper Allison Weick. Less than four minutes later,
Arly Escamilla dodged a defender and scored, giving the Cougars the 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break. Escamilla's goal proved to be the eventual game-winner.
Â
CUC would not let off the gas, and proceeded to score five more second-half goals.
Cecilia Kochanek and
Esmeralda Torres kicked off the latter half, scoring back-to-back goals within two minutes of each other. Later,
Emily Ordonez and
Melissa Galarza would score one and two goals, respectively, to solidify the Cougar victory.Â
With just 22 seconds to go, Alverno's one shot of the day slipped through the pipes and evaded the Inferno of a shut out. However, the late surge would not be enough as CUC ran away with the 7-1 victory.
