April 26, 2018 - The Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team hosted Wisconsin Lutheran College this afternoon in a makeup of a match postponed earlier this month. The Cougars put up a couple of quality challenges but ultimately lost 9-0 to the visitors.
The Warriors swept through doubles by 8-1, 8-1 and 8-0 scores, but singles play proved more competitive.
Trey Dille at fourth put up the toughest fight against Matt Plaski. Dille won the first set 6-4 but lost the second 0-6. In the third set, Dille gained a 5-2 lead, only to see Plaski come back and force a tiebreaker. Plaski eventually took the tiebreaker 7-2, making for a heartbreaking end to a good battle.
The other good battle came at sixth, where
Kenneth Catron battled Grant Fleming. Catron led early and stayed close throughout the match, but Fleming eventually prevailed by 6-4, 6-4 scores.
In other singles play, Ben Wordell topped
Orlando Hayes 6-2, 6-2 at first. Jonny Wordell defeated
Tyler Vincent 6-1, 6-3 at second. Jeremy Ryno blanked
Andrew Thompson 6-0, 6-0 at third, and David Ullerich bested
Aleksandar Utvic 6-0, 6-1 at fifth.
The Cougars (0-9, 0-6 NACC) will look to end the season on a positive note Saturday when they travel to Edgewood College and Marian University.
