April 12, 2018 - The Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team played the first of three home matches this week when they hosted the Illinois Institute of Technology this afternoon. Once again, the young Cougars used an opportunity to learn from a more experienced team as the Scarlet Hawks won the match 9-0.
In doubles play, the first doubles team of
Orlando Hayes and
Tyler Vincent, and the second team of
Aleksandar Utvic and
Andrew Thompson each took one set from their opponents, but the third team of
Nico Powell and
Harrison Grimes fell by an 8-0 score.
In singles, Utvuc took some early points from Jack Pio at fifth, but Pio prevailed by scores of 6-2, 6-0. Thompson earned a point at third, but Abhishek Ranacame out on top by 6-0, 6-1 scores. The other Cougars' singles matches - Hayes at first, Vincent at second,
Trey Dille at fourth and
Kenneth Catron at sixth - lost in straight 6-0 sets.
"Our players will be okay if they remember that their opponents were once at the level of play that we are right now, and if we keep learning from what we're doing and keep working to correct our mistakes, we'll improve our game and get to the next level as a team," said CUC head coach
Howard Carley.
The Cougars' next opportunities will come at home this Saturday as they host MSOE at 10 a.m. and Wisconsin Lutheran College at 2 p.m.
