Cougars Can't Overcome First Half Deficit

Notre Dame, Ind.- Concordia Chicago opened up a four game road trip this evening as the Cougar women took on Saint Mary's College. The Cougars look to get back on track after suffering three straight loses. Unfortunately, after a 2-2 start to the game, the Belles took over the game to go on to cruise to a 20-4 victory.

The Cougars were led by Anna Kellar who had two goals on the night to go with four groundballs, and three draw controls. Sandra Acevedo followed that up with a goal, an assist, and a groundball.

Early going in the game, both teams were feeling it offensively. Saint Mary's and Concordia Chicago alternated goals, each with the Cougars trailing to tie it up. The first goal was scored by Kellar off a great pass from Acevedo. Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference assist leader Sydney Fuller helped on the second goal setting up Acevedo for her first goal and second point of the game. After the goal, the CUC attack bombarded Saint Mary's goalkeeper Kendra Osinski, but she made the saves to keep the game tied at two. It was from there the Belles took control and started pressuring on offense. They managed to score four straight goals to take a four goal lead and force a CUC timeout. The Belles didn't let the timeout phase them as they scored seven more goals and 11 unanswered to take a 13-2 lead into halftime.

The second half didn't get much better for the Cougars as the Belles continued to pour on the goals. The Cougars added a couple late in the game, but it was not enough as Saint Mary's went on to win by the final score of 20-4.

Concordia-Chicago (2-6, 1-3 MWLC) will be back in action next Wednesday, April 4, when they head to Elmhurst to take on the Blue Jays. Opening draw is set for 7:00pm.
