Second Half Run Plagues Cougar Women

River Forest, Ill.- On another cold and windy day, the Cougars looked to get back on track as they hosted rival Concordia Wisconsin this afternoon.  Playing a man down the entire game, Concordia Chicago battled through the first half as they trailed the Falcons by two.  The second half was a different story as CUW poured it on outscoring the Cougars 9-1 to go on to win by the final score of 15-5.

Sydney Fuller led the Cougars with two goals on the day.  Anna Kellar and Margaret Doane each had a goal and an assist.  Hannah Johnson made 14 saves on 29 shots on goal for a .482 save percentage.

Right out of the gate, the Falcons pressured the Cougars defense with three quick shots on goal.  Playing her first career game in goal, Johnson made three spectacular saves to keep the game scoreless.  CUC got on the scoreboard first as Doane hit a cutting Kellar in the middle of the field as she snuck one past the goalkeeper.  About seven minutes later with the game tied at one, Doane gave the Cougars the lead once again as she drove past defenders to move the score to 2-1.  In a nine minute span, the Falcons scored five consecutive goals to put them up 6-2.  However, late in the half, CUC was able to cut the lead to two as Sandra Acevedo and Fuller cut the lead to 6-4 heading into halftime.

The second half was all Concordia Wisconsin.  The Falcons offense got more comfortable as they took advantage of being a man up to really extend their lead.  Within the first ten minutes, CUW scored three goals to put their lead at 9-4 and didn't look back from there.  The Falcons went on to score six more goals and win by the final score of 15-5.

Concordia-Chicago (2-4, 1-3 MWLC) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as the Cougars will take on Alma College.  Start time is set for 1:00pm.
