Chicago, Ill.- Concordia Chicago came into tonight looking to win back to back games for the first time this season. On a cold and windy night, Illinois Tech spoiled any momentum the Cougars had in their 14-9 win.
Anna Kellar led the Cougars offense tonight with four goals and two assists. Sydney Fuller followed that up with two goals, three assists, four groundballs, four caused turnovers and seven draw controls. Elizabeth Cyrwus made her first start in net tonight making 10 saves on 24 shots on goal for a .417 save percentage in the game.
Early in the game, both teams had a feeling out process and let the game come to them as it was scoreless for the first five minutes. The Scarlet Hawks broke the tie by scoring two quick goals to give them a 2-0 lead. The Cougars struck back quickly scoring three straight goals to take a one goal lead. CUC got their lead by Kellar getting two goals off of two great feeds from Fuller from behind the net. In a matter of two minutes, IIT regained the lead behind their leading goal scorer of Alyssa DeLuca netting a hat trick to give the Scarlet Hawks a 5-3 lead. After another Fuller goal to cut the lead to one, Illinois Tech again responded with four more goals to take a 9-4 lead into halftime.
Concordia Chicago attempted their comeback in the second half, but Illinois Tech responded with goal every time the Cougars cut into their lead. The closest CUC got back into the game was when they cut the lead to five twice on goals from Jessica Jaimes and Sydney LaTurner. Kellar and Margaret Doane scored two goals in the last 16 seconds of the game, but it was too late as the Scarlet Hawks were able to knock off the Cougars by the final score of 14-9.
