Beloit, Wis.- The Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team began their two game road schedule against Beloit College this afternoon. The Cougars jumped out to a huge lead of 7-1 early before the Bucs made it a game late, but CUC was able to hang on to win by the final score of 12-10.
Margaret Doane and Sydney Fuller each led the Cougars with four goals a piece, Fuller also contributed three assists for seven points in the game. Anna Kellar netted three goals and an assists, while Krystal Phillips earned her second win of the year.
At the start of the game, both teams were getting accustomed how each other were playing. Seven minutes into the game, Doane put one on the scoreboard to give the Cougars 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Concordia-Chicago piled on two more goals scored by Elizabeth Cyrwus and Fuller to extend the lead to three. After Beloit got one back, the Cougars rattled off four straight goals led by Keller scoring two to give the a 7-1 lead. The Bucs Morgan Nicholson netted her second goal of the game right before half to cut the CUC lead to five heading into halftime.
The second half featured Beloit trying to get back into the game. The Cougars got out to a 10-4 lead after two more goals from Fuller, but that didn't stop the Bucs from attempting a comeback. With ten minutes to go in the game, Beloit cut the lead to 11-7. Less than a minute later, Kellar halted the Bucs momentum with her third goal of the match to put the Cougars back up five. Beloit gave Concordia-Chicago a bit of a scare late scoring the last three goals, but CUC hung on to win 12-10.
Concordia-Chicago (2-2, 1-1 MWLC) will be back in action this Wednesday when they continue on the road at Illinois Tech. Start time is set for 7:00pm.
