River Forest, Ill. – After a blowout win to open the 2018-19 season, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team continues their four game road trip to open the season as they head to St.Louis, Missouri for two games over the weekend.
Setting the Scene: CUC will open with Spalding University out of Kentucky on Friday night before taking on the hosts Webster University on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars look to start 2-0 for the fourth straight season on Friday night. CUC is 0-6 in their last six neutral site contests over the last three seasons, but are 18-7 on the road during that same span.
Recent History: The Cougars do not have a lot of history with either of their opponents this weekend. They have not ever faced their Friday opponent Spalding. CUC has only faced Webster University once. That lone matchup came at this same tournament to open the 2011-12 season. The Cougars won that contest 47-45, while limiting Webster to just 25 percent shooting in the second half.
Basketball is a Bloom: Sophomore
Sam Bloom had an impressive start to her CUC career against Marian. She led the team with 20 points on the night on 8-12 shooting. She also had a team high four steals on the night to go along with three assists and three rebounds. Her 20 point outburst is among the best ever in a CUC debut.
All the Rae Around: Junior
Annika Rae had a strong performance in the opener, finishing with 12 points on the night, including a perfect 4-4 night from the charity stripe. She also contributed a team high six rebounds on the night. It was the fourth time that Rae has reached double digit points in a game.
Forcing Turnovers: CUC forced 31 Marian turnovers in the season opener. That was the highest number since the season opener against Blackburn last season.
