Late Goal Not Enough on CUC Senior Day

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Cougars took on Edgewood College (6-4-2, 1-2-2 NACC) for their senior day, where they honored four seniors and celebrated the years they spent with the team. The men recognized today included Daniel Hasko, Joel Krenz, Grant Manor, and Pete Munro.

In the early minutes of the game, there would be no clear advantage, with the ball being split evenly on both sides of the field. There was a corner kick from Munro that resulted in the first shot on goal of the game for the Cougars. This was closely followed by a shot on goal from the Eagles and a diving save from Jose Retana, which was his second save of the game.

With just under 10 minutes left in the first half, competition seemed to heighten after a few penalties were issued to both teams. Closing out the first half, Retana totaled five saves, while the Cougars only managed to have one shot on goal.

For the second half, Zachary Adamec was placed in goal for the Cougars. Within the first five minutes, he recorded his first save off of a corner kick from the Eagles.

In the 53rd minute of the game, Edgewood was able to score on a goal from Nicholas Bilodeau after a diving effort from Adamec to take the score to 1-0. In the same way as his first save, Adamec made a much-needed save and, minutes later, a big defensive play from Manor kept the score 1-0 in favor of the Eagles.

In the 71st minute of the match, Edgewood scored their second goal, making the score 2-0. Unlike the first half, the Eagles seemed to have control of the game.

At that point in the match, the Eagles had 12 shots on goal while the Cougars were only able to make five.

With less than a minute left in the match, Manor scored on a free kick, making it 2-1, which would be the final score.

The Cougars' next match is set for Wednesday, October 10th against MSOE (10-2, 6-0 NACC).
