RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Concordia-Chicago (4-9; 4-2 NACC) took on Edgewood College (1-9-1; 1-5 NACC) for Senior Day.
Before the match, seven seniors were honored for their dedication and service to CUC. The Cougars looked to build off of their huge upset win over IIT and hold onto their current playoff ranking, sixth seed, with another win on Senior Day. The first half was owned by CUC and they went into the half with a 1-0 lead. In the second half the Cougars would replicate their scoring and end the game with a 2-0 victory.
Concordia-Chicago did not waste much time to find the goal. In the 11th minute
Janette Moreno received a cross from
Esmeralda Torres and fired a shot from 15 yards out, inside the far post to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. That goal would conclude the scoring for the half. CUC would go into halftime with a 7-3 lead in shots on goal and a 1-0 lead.
The Cougar attack started off the second half aggressively. Multiple chances around the goal came up short and the lead would stay put at 1-0. Finally, CUC extended its lead. Torres found space in the box and tipped in a ball that bounced off of Moreno and
Samantha Wozniak, for her fourth goal of the season. After Torres's chip shot goal, the Cougars went up 2-0.
Senior Day scoring would end there and CUC would go on to win 2-0 concluding their second straight shut-out.
Concordia-Chicago will be back in action against Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Game-time is set for 2:00 p.m.
