River Forest, Ill. – With the conference tournament just around the corner, the Concordia University Chicago volleyball team has one last day to get into peak form before they embark on their first postseason journey since 2011. The Cougars will have two matches on Saturday at the Benedictine University Eagle Classic. The first comes bright and early at 10:00am against Wheaton College and the second at 2:00pm against Lincoln College.
Recent History: The Cougars have squared off with the Wheaton College Thunder just five times since 2006. CUC is 0-5 during that stretch against Wheaton, with their last match coming on September 20, 2013 here in River Forest. The match with Lincoln College who is an NAIA school will be the first ever between the Cougars and the Lynx. This will be the first time this season that the Cougars will square off with a team that they have never faced.
About the Cougars: The fifth seed in the upcoming NACC Tournament, the Cougars look to rebound after a tough two match day at Lakeland last Saturday.
Jaylynn Johnson continues to power the CUC offense with 258 kills on the season.
Shannon Stamp continues to give opponents fits with her blocking ability. She ranks in the top 70 in the country in blocks per set and total blocks.
Nicoletta Crowley enters the weekend with 2989 career assists and has a chance to become just the second in school history to reach 3000 assists in a career.
About the Thunder: The Wheaton College Thunder come into the weekend 11-16 overall. Jessica Bosse has been all over the floor this year for the Thunder, ranking 37
th in the country in total digs with 505. Colleen Smith paces the offense with a .220 hitting percentage and 249 kills on the year. Wheaton has three setters this season that have recorded over 100 assists, but Kelly Thornton leads the bunch with 452 this season.
About the Lynx: The Lincoln College Lynx come into the weekend 17-13 overall. The NAIA school will play Elmhurst College at 12:00pm before taking on the Cougars at 2:00pm. The Lynx started off the season slow, but gained momentum through the middle and later part of the season.
