RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Despite a season-high 12 saves from goalkeeper
Jose Retana, the Cougars were unable to get the job done today, ultimately falling 3-0 at the hands of River Forest rival, Dominican University.
With 13 first half shots, the Stars showed their strengths early on. With six minutes to go before the break, Dominican earned its fourth corner of the day. Star Isaac Perez took the corner, and sailed the ball to teammate Alexander Lulek, who managed to head the ball in for his first goal of the season. Lulek's header would be the ultimate game-winner as the Stars headed into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.Â
In the 67th minute of play, Dominican once again showed its skill at creating offense off a corner kick, when Perez took another corner and this time Carlos Ramos would score off a header. Later on, with five minutes to go in the game, Stars Benjamin Ibarra and Ethan Grosam played give-and-go around CUC defenders until Chris Linkenbach scored the third goal of the day from in front of the box.
The Cougars will return to the pitch this Saturday, in Mequon, Wis. to take on Concordia Wisconsin.Â
