Cougars Show Out at Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- In a heavily weighted NACC match up, which involved playoff implications, the Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team evaded the pressure and dominated Wisconsin Lutheran, 3-0.

The Cougars came out hungry and applied immense pressure throughout the entire first half. Despite the game being scoreless after 45 minutes of play, CUC had out shot WLC 10-1.

In the latter half, Concordia-Chicago kept its foot on the gas and took five shots and worked with two corner kick opportunities in the opening minutes. Eventually, the Warriors fell to the Cougar pressure as senior Krista Pojero scored her second career goal in the 69th minute of play and gave CUC the 1-0 lead. The New Jersey native was awarded a free kick from 20 yards out after a WLC foul, and after a deflection from the goalie, the ball found its way to the back of the net.

Less than five minutes later, junior Samantha Wozniak would net a goal of her own, as she lofted the ball from 25 yards out over WLC's goalkeeper. Wozniak would remain an offensive threat for the remainder of the match, as an aggressive last 10 minutes of the game left Wozniak with a penalty kick opportunity.

The Villa Park, Ill. native would ultimately strike on the penalty kick and solidify CUC's big road victory over Wisconsin Lutheran. With the 3-0 win, the Cougars advance to 3-5 in conference play as the Warriors settle to 4-4 in the NACC.

Looking ahead, the Cougars will prepare for first place Dominican University to come to Concordia Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 17. In addition to the Division Street Rivalry match up, the two teams will be participating in a pink out game to promote breast cancer awareness. Game time is set to begin at approximately 12:30 p.m.
