River Forest, Ill.- The Concordia University Chicago Women's Soccer team took on Alverno College in conference play this afternoon at home in River Forest. CUC came into this NACC matchup sporting a conference record of 1-1 and an overall record of 2-6-2. Their opponent, Alverno College, came in with a 0-2 record in conference play and an 1-8 mark overall. An action packed first half was fueled by four goals for the Cougars with a hat-trick by
Sarah LaCost, making it a one-sided game right out of the gate. In the second half, the match seemed to cool down with little scoring although the Cougars had their fair share of shots on goal. Leading to the 5-0 victory for CUC to kick off Homecoming week.
Kicking off the first half, the Cougars came out firing on all cylinders. In the 11th minute, CUC started the scoring with a rebound on the left side leading to a goal by LaCost, the score was assisted by
Samantha Goodlett. LaCost would score her second goal of the game fifteen minutes later in the 25th minute to make the score 2-0. The goal came off a cross from the right side by
Meghan Vasseur, giving LaCost her fourth score of the season and one away from a hat trick early on.
Shifting to another gear, the Cougars decided that a 2-0 lead was not enough and two goals in the twenty-ninth minute to make it 4-0. The first in the minute was one touched into the box and scored by
Esmeralda Torres for her second goal of the season, assisted by Vasseur. Then twenty-three seconds later the Cougar's senior leader LaCost fired a shot off the post and in from fifteen yards out. LaCost earned a hat trick for her third goal of the game without even reaching the second half yet. Goal number five on LaCost's season was assisted by
Cecilia Kochanek.
CUC set the tone early and often in the first half, setting them up with a cool 4-0 lead going into the second half.
Scoring in the second half was not nearly as frequent as the first half, with no scoring throughout the whole half until three minutes left in the game when Kochanek broke away and fired a shot into the upper 90 on the left side and by the goalie to make it 5-0. Torres was recorded with the final assist of the game.
A couple of Cougar players climbed up in the CUC all-time record books after this game.
Sarah LaCost moved to eighth all-time in points and tied for eighth all-time in goals. Goalie
Allyson Krajnak moved to second all-time in wins.
With the 5-0 win, CUC took their second win in conference play moving to 2-1 and 3-6-2 overall. They look to build on their great NACC start in another conference matchup against Marian at home on Sunday Oct. 1.
