Cougars Rock Regents For Second Straight Win

Rockford, Ill.- Looking to build off of a road win on Saturday, the Concordia University Chicago Men's Soccer team took to the pitch again tonight under the lights in Wedgbury Stadium against the Rockford Regents. The Cougars' offense carried the momentum from their 4-0 win over Lakeland to tonight, leading too three first half goals along with one late insurance goal to lead CUC to an important 4-1 NACC road win.

"Tonight was a true team effort from start to finish," remarked head coach Michael Arango following the win. "We had four different guys tally a goal.  Every single player worked to put the team first.  We didn't have a starting 11 tonight, we had a starting 20. It was a very gutty performance from our guys and we are really proud of them."

While shots were not easy to come by, the Cougars were able to make the most of the chances they had. The Cougars created and finished their first plus chance on goal in the 8th minute. Joel Krenz fed Gerardo Medina who found the back of the net in the bottom right corner to quickly swing the momentum the Cougars' way.

CUC then doubled their lead almost exactly 10 minutes later in the 18th minute. Again it was Krenz along with Ricardo Aragon that found Fabian Robles who's shot into the top left corner made it 2-0 Cougars. To cap off the fine first half, it was Aragon who finished off a penalty kick that blew the game wide open at 3-0 just 29 minutes in.

Rockford kept themselves in the match with a goal in the 32nd minute off of the foot of Bailey Beard.

The second half saw much more defense with the Cougars digging in, including fighting off a Rockford penalty kick in the 63rd minute. The Cougar defense continued to battle tough as the half progressed including fighting off two corner kicks in the 81st minute. CUC finally countered and put the final touches on the match when Aymen Maman netted his third goal of the season from 30 yards out with the goalie caught out of position to push the Cougar lead to 4-0.

CUC was able to put six of their 12 shots on net on the match. Rockford did out shoot CUC 14-12, but were only able to put five shots on net. The other four were stopped by senior keeper Roberto Aragon.

The Cougars (2-6-0; 2-1 NACC) will look to build on their two-game winning streak when they close out homecoming week at home against Marian on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 12:30pm from Concordia Stadium.
