Sept. 2, 2017 - The Concordia University Cougars took on the Concordia University Ann Arbor Cardinals in the final game of the 2017 Women's Soccer CIT. The Cougars were looking to rebound from a loss in their season opener to Concordia Nebraska. but fell behind early. They tried to fight back but could not overcome the tough Concordia Ann-Arbor team, falling by a final score of 4-1.
Early on, both respective defenses held their own and were not budging. Concordia Ann-Arbor held off a couple of shot attempts from the Cougars, who were still trying to find the back of the net for the first time this season.
Once time passed the 10 minute mark, the Cardinals started to find their footing offensively, which led to a goal in the 18th minute by junior Janaya Lothian on a shot from just inside the box that found the center of the net.
The second goal of the half came from a shot across the field from the right side to the top left corner of the goal. Senior Sydney Rouse was credited with the long strike that pushed the score to 2-0 before the halftime break.
Kicking off the second half, it took only until the 56th minute for the Cardinals to strike next and make the score 3-0.
Late in the second half, as the box was getting congested, freshman forward Esther Annoreno sneaked one by the Concordia Ann-Arbor goalie for the Cougars' first goal of the 2017 season and the first of her career.
Soon after the Cougars put themselves on the scoreboard, the Cardinals answered back with a goal of their own. This time the goal came from Julia Palushaj, and pushed the lead to 4-1.
Concordia Ann-Arbor moved to 3-0 on the year, while Concordia University Chicago took their second loss of the year and moved to 0-2. The Cougars look to adapt from their mistakes and go for their first win of the season against Webster University at 12 p.m. on Monday at Cougar Stadium.
