Cougar Women's Win is Crystal Clear

Box Score Dec. 30, 2017 – After exploding for a single-game record 112 points in their last game on Dec. 20, the Concordia-Chicago women returned to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action today against the Marian University Sabres. While not quite at the breakneck pace of that contest, CUC's offense was more than enough to run to an easy 78-44 victory.

Crystal Corr got CUC rolling, scoring five points as the visitors jumped to a 7-0 lead. Both teams had to fight through some turnovers in the early going, but the Cougars maintained the lead. Lisa Lubben's jumper from the left side gave CUC its first double-digit lead, and when Taylor Jacobsen was successful on a three-point play, the Cougars extended the lead to 18-4. The quarter ended with Concordia-Chicago leading 26-8.

As the second quarter commenced, T. Jacobsen remained on fire. She scored seven points including a long three and a baseline drive for a three-point play as an 11-2 run stretched the lead to 37-10. Kayla Horlacher added a three, and Corr finished the half strongly with a couple more scores as the Cougars were in firm control with a 48-16 lead.

T. Jacobsen finished the half with 14 points, while Corr was just one board shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Courtney Lofink had eight points, largely on the strength of 6-6 at the FT line. Concordia-Chicago was successful attacking the basket as they got to the line 22 times, although they were good on just 14. Turnovers were also high at 12, although CUC forced Marian into 29 miscues.

The Cougars built the lead to 54-18 early in the third before Marian made their best run of the game with eight unanswered points. Corr finally halted the Sabres' run to restore a 30-point lead, and her basket triggered an 8-0 answering run as Concordia-Chicago grabbed a 64-26 lead at the third quarter.

The run became a 13-point win as CUC scored the first five points of the fourth quarter, The Sabres chipped away at the 43-point lead during the final minutes as both teams used their benches liberally in the blowout.

Corr finished with a career-high in points for the second straight game, topping her 18-point effort against LaVerne with 23 tonight. The sophomore also matched her career-high in rebounds with 13. T. Jacobsen added 20 points while Lofink notched 11 points, seven assists and four steals.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 7-2, 4-2 in conference play. They now prepare for a busy three-game week, beginning with a River Forest Rivalry Cup game at Dominican University on Tuesday night.
