Cougar Women Shutout WLC For Key NACC Win

River Forest, Ill.- After a rainout Saturday forced the match to be played today, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Soccer team took to the pitch in a key NACC tilt with the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors on a beautiful fall afternoon. The Cougars found themselves on the offensive attack early in the match, but it would not be till the 67th minute when Cecilia Kochanek would finally find the back of the net for the game's only goal, sealing a critical NACC win for CUC 1-0.

"This result was big for us in the conference race," commented interim head coach Kayla Braffet. "We had chances that we didn't put away early, but Cecilia found a way to give us the goal we needed for the win. Now we have to quickly ready for a tough rivalry match with Dominican on Wednesday."

The Cougars offense created eight shots in the first half with seven being put on net. Unfortunately for the Cougars, WLC goalkeeper Hailey Krause was up to the challenge, making every stop to keep the score 0-0 heading into halftime.

Wisconsin Lutheran came out of the half looking to get their offense going but Madeline Kroll stepped up to the challenge making two saves.

CUC finally was rewarded for their offensive effort in the 67th minute. A cross into the box resulted in a fight for the ball, Kochanek was able to dribble it away into just enough space that allowed her to lob a shot toward the net that the keeper grabbed after the ball crossed the goal line that rewarded CUC with the decisive 1-0 lead. The goal was Kochanek's third of her freshman campaign.

The Cougars (5-8-2; 4-3 NACC) will have a quick turnaround with their next match coming in just under 48 hours against Division street rival Dominican. The Rivalry Cup match will take place down the street at Dominican, with opening kickoff set for 3:15pm.
