April 10,2016 - A day that was supposed to see the Concordia University Chicago campus come alive with multiple-sport action, the cold weather would cut the day's events down to one. The CUC women's lacrosse team would take to the field for their first "White Out" game in support of those battling lung cancer. The Cougars would take on the Aurora Spartans, who would stifle the CUC offense, and keep them as cold as the temperatures outside today. The Spartans downed the Cougars by a final of 18-0.
Aurora jumped out to a hot start and never look back in today's match after the opening draw. There was a unique scoring pattern for the Spartans early in the game with Chloe Madison and Kenny Hughes trading back and forth for the first seven goals of the contest. The Spartans jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first half and cruised in the second half to the victory.
The best scoring chance for CUC came with five seconds left when
Sydney Fuller (Elkhart, IN, Northridge) would be awarded a free-position shot. She would try and beat the the Aurora goalie low to the left, but the Spartan goaltender was up to the challenge and saved the shot.
Melissa Franco (Wood Dale, IL, Fenton) played well for CUC in net despite the score, making 14 saves in the match, and continued to improve her season save percentage.
The Cougars will now hit the road for four road contests spanning the next two weeks. The first of those coming on April 15, when the Cougars will travel to Dubuque, Iowa to take on Loras College with opening draw set for 6:00p.m.
