April 15, 2016 -Â The Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team began a two-game weekend swing this evening in Dubuque, Iowa where they took on Loras College. The Cougars and the Duhawks waged a close battle for the first half, but Loras held CUC to just one second-half goal and pulled away to a 13-4 win.Â
Loras opened the scoring 45 seconds after the first draw as Kaitlyn Kutsch netted the first of her six goals on the evening. But it took CUC just 2 1/2 minutes to even the score as
Sydney Fuller (Elkhart, IN/Northridge)Â scored her seventh of the year. Three minutes later,
Anna Kellar (Collinsville, IL/Metro-East Lutheran) followed suit with her seventh of the season, and the Cougars found themselves with a 2-1 lead.Â
The Cougars' advantage did not last as the Duhawks scored the next four goals (three by Kutsch). Concordia-Chicago broke that run as Fuller scored on a free-position shot. However, Loras scored the final two goals, the second with 39 seconds remaining, to take a 7-3 lead into the half.
Loras scored the first goal of the second match, but that was offset minutes later by Fuller, who tallied her third of the game off a pass fromÂ
Danielle Wade (Chicago, IL/Guerin Prep). Unfortunately, that was to be all the scoring for the Cougars as the Duhawks scored the final five goals of the match.Â
The final stats showed Loras with a 32-20 advantage in shots.Â
Melissa Franco (Wood Dale, IL/Fenton)Â was credited with 11 saves while Loras goalie Ashley McGee made seven saves.
Concordia-Chicago will travel to Greencastle, Indiana for a match against DePauw University on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 (Chicago time).
