April 2, 2016 - On a day when any kind of weather was possible, the Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team were faced with a difficult challenge in the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin.
The Falcons entered the game in first place of the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference, and they remained there after casting an extra chill on the proceedings with an 18-0 win over the Cougars.
One of the Cougars' best chances came right off the opening draw as
Sydney Fuller (Elkhart, IN/Northridge) picked up the ground ball and headed straight at goal. She would wind up with a quality scoring chance that was saved by the CUW goalie. Moments later, at the other end, the Falcons' Christina Pattengale was denied by
Melissa Franco (Wood Dale, IL/Fenton). However, Pattengale got a second chance and made good on it to open the scoring. That goal unleashed a flurry of CUW goals as the visitors took a 6-0 lead at the six-minute mark of the game. The visitors added eight more in the half and then closed out the scoring with four more tallies in the second half.
Concordia-Chicago's best scoring chances, besides Fuller's first-minute opportunity, came from
Margaret Doane (Glen Ellyn, IL/homeschooled) whose free-position shot was saved, and
Anna Kellar (Collinsville, IL/Metro-East Lutheran), whose shot was also parried by the goalie. Fuller had a chance in the second half, but her shot hit the post.
The Cougar women will return to action next Saturday, April 9 when they host Aurora University at 1:00.
