March 19, 2016 -Â The Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team fell to 0-3 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play today with a 16-1 loss to visiting Augsburg College this afternoon.
The Auggies opened the scoring just 2:40 into the match and added a couple more goals over the next few minutes. However, the Cougars had a few early forays into the visitors' end of the field. The visitors played a controlled, more methodical offense and waited patiently for shots to come. About the 20-minute mark, when Christina Nelson scored on a free-position shot to make it 5-0, things began to get away from the Cougars. Augsburg went on a run to push their lead into double digits at the 12:21 mark of the half.
In the final minute of the half, the Cougars got their bright spot. An Auggies player was issued a yellow card, and the Cougars took advantage of their man-up opportunity.Â
Sonja Sorensen (Berwyn, IL/Walther Lutheran)Â weaved her way in from the left side and from about 10 feet away shot low inside the far post for her eighth goal of the season. The half expired with Augsburg leading 13-1.
The second half saw the pace of the game slowed down with only three goals added to the scoreboard. Augsburg finished the game with a 27-4 edge over Concordia-Chicago in shots. AC's Sarah Hochman made three saves while CUC'sÂ
Melissa Franco (Wood Dale, IL/Fenton)Â made five.
The Cougars (0-8) will travel to Iowa on Wednesday to face the University of Dubuque.
