March 16, 2016 -Â After a five-game road trip, the Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team looked forward to playing at home today for the first of two matches this week. However, St. Mary's College of Indiana spoiled the homecoming with a strong first half that toppled the Cougars by a score of 17-2.
The Belles took a 2-0 lead in the first 3:30 of the game. The Cougars' defense then settled down for a breif spell, but St. Mary's opened up the lead with some pinpoint passing in the offensive end. Six of the next seven goals for the visitors were assisted, with many of the passes setting up the Belles for point-blank shots against CUC goalieÂ
Melissa Franco  (Wood Dale, IL/Fenton). The Belles fired 25 shots on the Cougars' net for the half and led 12-0 at the half.
The Cougars regrouped during the break and played a better second half. CUC got on the board with 17:23 remaining asÂ
Sydney Fuller (Elkhart, IL/Northridge) evaded a couple of defenders to score her fourth of the season. Fuller later struck again as the freshman made it five goals in the last three contests.Â
Concordia-Chciago (0-7) will return to action on Saturday at 1:00 when they host Augsburg College in a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference match.
