Oct. 5, 2016 - The Concordia University Chicago Cougars took to the pitch again today in a Northern Athletics Colligate Conference match against the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors. It was also the Cougars annual Pink Out game. The Cougars got back to their ways of scoring early and often on the day. They scored in the third minute and never looked back on the day, in route to a 5-0 win.
The first half was all Cougars. CUC has played well when they have grabbed the lead early and today was no different. CUC scored just 2:38 into the contest.
Natalie Weinhold took the initial shot that the Warriors' goalkeeper was able to deflect. It fell directly at the feet of
Elizabeth Sanders who put the finishing touches on her third goal of the season just inside the right post.
CUC doubled the score just under ten minutes later in the 12
th minute. This time it was
Alisha Johnson who was fed into the box through traffic by
Sydney Fuller. Johnson dribbled once and banked it in off of the right post to make it 2-0 CUC. The Cougars continued to stay on the attack. In the 18
th minute made it 3-0 when Johnson netted her second of the day when she was fed again in the box, this time by
Sarah LaCost.
The Cougars were not done in the half.
Katie Biga made it 4-0 in the 23
rd minute. She found the back of the net for the first time on the season when Johnson played a ball backwards to Biga who one touched the ball into the left side of the net.
CUC went into the halftime break not allowing Wisconsin Lutheran to even get a shot off.
The Cougars added one final goal in the 58
th minute. This time it was Weinhold netting her first goal of the season. She dribbled into space just above the top of the box and fired a rocket into the top right corner to convert the final tally for the day.
In total CUC outshot WLC 24-1 on the day, putting 12 of those shots on net.
Ally Krajnak and
Maddie Kroll combined on the day to work a clean sheet for the Cougars, registering CUC's fourth shutout of the season.
The Cougars (6-4-1 3-2 NACC) return to action tomorrow night in a non-conference match against the Illinois Institute of Technology. The match is set to begin at 7:00pm from IIT.
