Walker's Two Goals Lead Cougars Past Scarlet Hawks

October 6, 2016- A 90 minute match usually means a lot of running. After scoring four goals just over 24 hours before, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars Women's Soccer team took back to the pitch tonight against Illinois Tech in a non-conference matchup. The Cougars were able to get two goals from Kahla Walker and strong defense in route to a 2-0 win, and the Cougars fifth shutout on the season.

CUC took the lead in the 9th minute. Walker found the back of the net when a ball was played out by the Scarlet Hawks goalie, but fell directly at the feet of Walker who quickly put the ball on net, over the backpedaling keeper to give CUC the early lead. Late in the first half it was goalie Madeline Kroll with a diving save  to her right on a bending ball to preserve the Cougars 1-0 lead going into the half.

It was Walker again in the 58th minute who added an insurance goal. Walker was able to corral a loose ball in the center of the field near the top of the box. On a half-volley she found the back of the net on a bending shot to the left side of the net for her second of the match.

The Cougars were in control nearly the whole match, outshooting the Scarlet Hawks 17-9. CUC was able to put 11 shots on net on the game to IIT's three. Kroll worked the clean sheet in goal for the Cougars on the night.

The Cougars (7-4-1) will return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Saturday when they head to Sheboygan Wisconsin to take on the Lakeland College Muskies. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 1:00pm.
