Oct. 20, 2016 -Â The Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team returned home after a tough 1-0 loss to Aurora University yesterday to face Grinnell College this afternoon. The non-conference game gave CUC head coachÂ
Chris Brown for an opportunity to give extended minutes to some of his younger players, but unfortunately the outcome was unchanged as the Cougars were blanked for a second straight day, this time by a score of 2-0.
The Pioneers scored a goal in each half for the road victory. In the 26th minute, Carolyn Silverman broke in on goal and, with a CUC defender on her, deftly moved the ball around keeperÂ
Maddie Kroll and fired into the open net. Grinnell's second goal came in the 50th minute when a violation in the box resulted in a penalty kick which Hannah Truesdale converted.
Shots for the game saw Grinnell fire 15 to CUC's Four. Kroll was kept bust, making six saves while her conunterpart, Regan Kasprak made just a single save onÂ
Kayla Kreher's first-half shot. Concordia-Chicago's best chance of scoring came late in the first half whenÂ
Samantha Wozniak did some fancy footwork around a few defenders and moved within five yards of the goal, However, as she went to pass across the goalmouth where a Cougar player was charging in, Kasprak read the play correctly and scooped up the ball.
"While I was disappointed with the result, I was satisfied with what we wanted to accomplish today," said Brown. "I felt it was good for us to get back on the field after yesterday, and we certainly had opportunities to work with our roster and get them ready for some key games coming up. If we are to be successful, our depth is a big factor and we will need to count upon several people to be ready when their number is called."
The Cougars will now prepare for the final two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches of the regular season, beginning with a match against Concordia University Wisconsin this Saturday. Kickoff from Mequon, WI is scheduled for 1 p.m.
