Early Goals Costly As Cougar Women Fall To Eagles

October 1, 2016 – After taking down a tough Dominican team on Wednesday, the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team traveled to Madison, Wisconsin to take on Edgewood College in a key NACC matchup of teams currently near the top of the standings. CUC has used hot starts to big wins this season, but unfortunately the Eagles got off to the hot start in route to a 3-0 win over CUC.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick start early in the game just what the Cougars did to the Dominican Stars this past Wednesday by scoring two quick goals.  In the fourth minute, Edgewood's Taylor Pampuch headed a cross that just snuck by Cougar goalkeeper Allyson Krajnak.  In the eleventh minute, the Eagles offense came soaring into the Cougars defensive zone again when Edgewood forward Alisha Nolden set up senior Emily Skaer with a beautiful ball down the middle of the field that Skaer was able to bury into the back of the Cougar net to give the Eagles a quick 2-0 lead.  The Cougars offense came alive with a flurry of scoring chances in the 22nd minute.  Junior forward Sarah LaCost had the best scoring opportunity when she hit the crossbar as she was fighting off defenders in the middle of the box.  The Eagles went into the 2nd half leading 2-0.

The 2nd half started off slow as both teams struggled to keep possession of the ball.  As the half went along, the Cougars applied more pressure offensively when in the 57th minute Nikki Anderson had a loose ball fall to her feet, but she sailed her shot over the crossbar.  However, the Eagles generated a good counter attack that forced a corner kick for Edgewood.  Off the corner, the ball somehow found its way through multiple players to Edgewood's Emily Skaer and she tapped in the goal as she laid on the ground to extend the Eagles lead to 3 in the 64th minute.  Overall, the Cougars outshot the Eagles 15-5, it was just the Eagles capitalizing on their opportunities in the end.

The Cougars (5-4-1 2-2 NACC) will return home Wednesday, October 5th, as they take on conference foe Wisconsin Lutheran at 3 p.m. in their annual pink out game from Cougar Stadium.
