Sept. 19, 2015 - The Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team opened up conference play Saturday against Marian University in sunny Fond du Lac Wisconsin. Unfortunately. it would be the foot of Alonso Fragoso who would net three goals for Marian to down the Cougars 3-1
The Cougars competed all day long but would come up short; Marian would get on the board quickly in the 11th minute. Fragoso would win a scramble in front of the goal and be able to fire it past Jorge Guzman (Cicero, IL/Morton East) for the first goal of the game.
It was Marian again in the 25th minute doubling their total when Fragoso again hit the back of the net, this time beating Guzman one-on-one in the box.
Concordia-Chicago netted their goal in the 32nd minute. Nick Cardenas (Hoffman Estates, IL/H.S.) scored his first goal of the year, beating the Sabres' goalkeeper from 25 yards out.
The Cougars fired another four shots on net in the second half but unfortunately, none of them were able to equalize the score. Marian added their insurance goal in the 80th minute. Fragoso would finalize his hat trick as he would dribble across the box and rippled the back of the net inside the right post and just under the crossbar.
The Cougars will have a few days to rest up before heading to take on Blackburn College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday; Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
