Sept. 16, 2015 -Â Â The Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team traveled to Naperville this evening, hoping to extend its winning streak to two as they battled the Cardinals of North Central College. The Cougars put forth a good challenge, but the Cardinals made a goal in the 15th minute stand up for a 1-0 win as the Cougars slipped to 1-5-0 on the season.
The home team scored early afterÂ
Maddie Kroll (Geneva, IL/H.S.) made her first save of the contest against NCC's Rebecca Sneddon. However, the Cougars were unable to clear the zone, and Jessica DeJong struck a hard shot which handcuffed Kroll and hit the back of the net.
North Central owned a 6-2 advantage in shots for the half, but CUC began to build their attack over the final 10 minutes.
Nikki Anderson's (Montgomery, IL/Oswego) shot in the 36th minute forced the first save if the game for the Cardinals' keeper Nicki Seiton. Minutes later,Â
Alisha Johnson (Coal City, IL/H.S.) had an opportunity, but her shot was wide to the left.
In the second half, the Cougars were able to penetrate the Cardinals' zone but were unable to apply to the finishing touch. The two best chances came onÂ
Alex Wilson's (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake Central) shot from the center of the box which just went to the outside of the left post, andÂ
Megan Albregts' (Romney, IN/McCutcheon)Â direct kick from 25 yards out which sailed over the crossbar.
Concordia-Chicago head coachÂ
Chris Brown remarked after the game, "Over these last three matches, I feel that our work rate and overall effort are closer to where we need them to be. We still need to put everything together, but I feel that we are in a better position now than where we were last week."
The Cougars will open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Saturday with a match at Marian University in Fond du Lac, WI.  Â
