Two Quick Strikes Give Cougar Men Second Win

Sept. 12, 2015 - The Concordia Cougars' [2-3] attack was in full swing today in taking down the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats [3-2-1] by a score of 2-1.

Talking about the Cougars attack today, CUC head coach Micah Middendorf said, "we were able to get numbers forward and get off a lot of shots. The next step will be to get those all on net, but we are very happy with this win."

The Cougars would be on the attack for the majority of the game today, ripping off 21 total shots. However, they found themselves chasing the Sabercats in the second half. This would come off a defensive mistake the Cougars would make in the 12th minute. The mistake would lead Jeremy Knudsen to net his first goal of the year, when he was able to get space behind the Cougar defense and find the back of the net beating Zachary Ademec (Louisville, KY/Butler Traditional) one on one for putting the Sabercats up 1-0.

A two-minute span in second half would be the key to victory for the Cougars. In the 54th minute, a perfect lead pass from Roberto Avila (Cicero, IL/Morton East) set up Daniel Krajewski (Addison, IL/Addison Trail) with space to put the finishing touches on his second goal of the season and tying the game at one goal apiece.

Under two minutes later, the Cougars would be back on the prowl inside of the Maranatha box. A handball was called against the Sabercats. This would give the Cougars a penalty kick. Coach Middendorf elected to put Avila on the shot, and he buried the shot in the back of the net, giving the Cougars the lead for good.

The Sabercats would not go quietly. In the 75th minute, the Sabercats worked themselves behind the Cougar defense, but it would be Ademec making a highlight real save from point blank to preserve the lead for Concordia-Chicago.

The Cougars look to extend their winning streak to three Sunday afternoon. They will kick off against MacMurray College at 12 p.m.
