Falcons Put a Damper on Senior Day for Cougar Women

Oct.24, 2015 - On one of the most memorable senior days in recent memory, the Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team hosted Concordia University Wisconsin. Heavy rains would give way to sunshine in the second half, but the Cougars would experience gloom in an overtime loss to the NACC-leading Falcons, 1-0 in overtime.

When it rained, it poured this morning in River Forest. The skies would open up a downpour just 15 minutes before kickoff that would create standing water on the Concordia Stadium turf. The two teams would struggle mightily to get any sort of movement with the ball. Any ball that was played on the ground throughout the first 30 minutes of the half would not travel more than a few yards at a time before it would be stopped. The first half would be relatively uneventful, with the Falcons out shooting the Cougars just 4-1.

The second half would see the sun come out, and the Cougars put together one of their finest defensive efforts of the season. Facing the high powered offensive attack of the Falcons, Ally Krajnak (Griffith, IN/H.S.)made seven saves in the match with five of those coming in the second half. Most notable of those saves came in the 83rd minute when Krajnak would deny Emily Ciesielczyk from in the box.

Overtime started with the Cougars pushing the ball forward. Allison Kruk (Elgin, IL/St. Edward) would get a shot on net that was saved in the first two minutes of the overtime period. From there CUW would be on the attack again, finishing off the match in the 98th minute. Kayla Schlosser would make an impressive move creating a one on one attempt with Krajnak that she would finish inside the left post.

"It's heartbreaking," said CUC head coach Chris Brown, " I couldn't have asked for a better effort out of the team, unfortunately we are on the wrong side of the result today. We showed today how much we have grown as a team this season."

Prior to the match, the team was able to honor the six Cougar seniors who will have one more match to compete in the maroon and gold on Wednesday evening, in Milwaukee against the Milwaukee School of Engineering. That match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
