Oct. 28th 2015Â - The 2015 season has been full of ups and downs but, unfortunately for the Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team, they would end the year with a disappointing 5-0 loss to the Milwaukee School of Engineering this evening in Milwaukee.
The teams played the first 20 minutes strong and scoreless. The temperatures started to drop, but it was the MSOE Raiders who started to heat up for the remainder of the contest. Shelby Namen opened the Raiders' scoring in the 32
nd minute. MSOE was awarded a corner kick in which the initial shot off of the corner was blocked away by Cougar goalie
Ally Krajnak (Griffith, IN/H.S.), but Namen fired back into the net for her second goal of the season.
The rest of the first half was uneventful from both sides, with the Raiders getting just one final shot in the 42
nd minute. The Cougars managed just one shot in the first half compared to the Raiders' eight., that coming off the foot of
Natalie Weinhold (St. Peters, MO/Lutheran St. Charles).The second half was all red and black as the Raiders scored four goals in the half. In the 58
th minute, one of the NACC's most dangerous scorers doubled the Raider lead. Sara Travia cut inside the Cougars' defense from the end line, and beat Krajnak on the near post, making it 2-0.
The Raiders went on to score three more times in the match, getting goals in the 72
nd, 73
rd, and 84
th minutes. The Cougars tried to get attacks going, as
Hillary Campbell (Dyer, IN/Rich Central)Â took multiple shots on net in the closing minutes of the game. However, both were saved by Raider goalie Mary McFee, part of the combined shutout effort for the hosts.
Concordia-Chicago finished the 2015 season with a record of 7-11-0 (4-6-0 NACC). The season was highlighted by a five-game winning streak while holding the opponents scoreless for just over 300 minutes during the streak. Six seniors donned the Cougar jersey for the final time this evening.
Shawna Rembold (Rochester, MI/Stoney Creek), Gabby Garza (Fenton, MI/H.S.), Stephanie Brown (Streamwood, IL/H.S.), Alex Wilson (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake North), Emily Ernst (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) and Campbell. Also seeing her last Cougar action was senior manager Danny Garza. This class enjoyed a 40-28-5 record over their time as Cougars, making the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament in 2013.Â
