Cougar Men Blanked on Senior Day

Oct. 25, 2015 - The Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team hosted the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin for Senior Day 2015. The weather was cooperative but not the opposition as the Falcons controlled the game and defeated the Cougars by a final score of 5-0.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 12th minute as a free kick found its way into the box through a maze of bodies. Kyler Pope put his foot to it and deflected it past keeper Jorge Guzman (Cicero, IL/Morton East). Concordia Wisconsin scored their two other first-half goals on set pieces; Luis Loya headed in Diego Campos' free kick in the 28th minute. Less than three minutes later, Campos' corner kick was headed in by Dagoberto Diaz for a 3-0 advantage.

The Cougars took three shots in the half, with the best opportunity coming from Roberto Avila (Cicero, IL/Morton East). Avila's 25-yarder from the left side, coming just minutes before CUW's first goal, curled back to the far post but struck iron and caromed away.

Concordia Wisconsin added two more goals in the second half on Keenan Van Dusseldorp's finish from close range and Justin Clayton's shot from just outside the box. The Falcons finished with a 30-5 advantage in shots.

Prior to the game, the Cougars honored seniors Guzman, Nick Cardenas (Hoffman Estates, IL/H.S.), Diego Diaz (Cicero, IL/Morton East), Andre Finney (South Holland, IL/Thornwood) and Joey Malme (Green Bay, WI/NEW Lutheran). The five will don the Cougar kit for the final time on Wednesday when CUC host the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 2 p.m.
