Men's Soccer Season Ends in Loss to Raiders

Oct. 28, 2015 - The season finale for the Concordia-Chicago men's soccer team featured lots of attacking soccer on display. However, it was the firepower of the Milwaukee School of Engineering, led by brothers Logan and Braden Andryk, that had the better of play for much of the day. The Raiders built a 6-0 lead and rolled to a 7-2 victory at Concordia Stadium in River Forest.

The Andryk brothers came in as two of the top scorers in NCAA Division III, and they started early in the match. In the 10th minute, Braden Andryk's corner sailed directly in front of the goal where Gregory Borsari headed it just inside the right post for the game's opening goal.  Later in the half, it was logan passing to Braden, who fought off the challenge of a CUC defender before slotting the ball from the right side just inside the left post for a 2-0 lead.

MSOE's Brock Shilling scored an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute, and Logan Andryk closed out a four0goal half for the visitors as he scored from point-blank range off a feed from Sean Tabbert in the 39th minute. The Raiders had a lopsided 17-2 advantage in shots for the half.

Logan Andryk and Andrew Swiecichowski scored to make it 6-0 before Concordia-Chicago got on the board in the 71st minute. Some nice one-two passing from Joshua Ernst (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) and Gibril Jobe (Berwyn, IL/Morton West) sent the ball into the goalmouth from where Joey Malme (Green Bay, WI/NEW Lutheran) had a step on his defender and poked the ball past the keeper. The goal was Malme's ninth of the season as he finished the season as the Cougars' scoring leader.

Braden Andryk scored his second of the day in the 74th minute for MSOE's final tally. Jobe then closed out the scoring in the 81st minute as his shot from about 15 yards out on the right side beat the keeper up high. The unassisted marker was Jobe's fourth of 2015.

The Raiders outshot the Cougars by a margin of 24-10. Jorge Guzman (Cicero, IL/Morton East) made five saves in his final game for CUC, and Ariel Manjarrez (Berwyn, ILMorton West) made one save in his 10 minutes of work.

The Cougars finished the season with a 6-11-1 record, 2-8-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The team will lose five seniors to graduation - Guzman, Malme, Nick Cardenas (Hoffman Estates, IL/H.S.), Diego Diaz (Cicero, IL/Morton East) and Andre Finney (South Holland, IL/Thornwood).
