Sept. 30, 2014 - The Concordia-Chicago volleyball team's victory this evening required some extra effort as host Rockford University battled the Cougars down to the wire in every set. The Regents took the opening set 26-24, but the Cougars fought back to take the next three sets by 25-23, 29-27 and 25-21. The effort enabled CUC to walk out of Seaver Gymnasium with their fourth win of the season and first in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.
The Cougars had the lead in all four sets, although the Regents overcame a 24-20 deficit in set one by scoring the final six points. But CUC was able to stay calm and collected the rest of the way, bending but never breaking. "Our passing and ball control were good tonight, and that helped our top hitters to make an impact," said CUC head coach
Troy Campbell.  The final stat sheet showed freshman
Kaylyn Anderson (East Chicago, IN/Whiting) with 26 kills, a .345 attack and 13 digs; the 26 kills represented her second highest output of the season. Two more freshmen marked season-high efforts asÂ
Austin Thompson (Morris, IL/Morris Community H.S.)Â recorded 14 kills, and
Allison Back (LaPorte, IN/Marquette Catholic) put up 16 digs.
Concordia-Chicago plays two more NACC matches this week, travelling to Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday night and hosting the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday night.
