Feb. 16, 2014 - For a second straight day, a visiting team unleashed some potent three-point shooting against the Concordia-Chicago women's basketball team at Geiseman Gymnasium. The Lakeland College Muskies shot 46 percent from three-point range in taking a 72-45 victory against the Cougars.
Lakeland's Aimee Thrune set the tone by hitting a three for the first points of the game. Concordia got on the board with a basket by Angelik Young (Crete, IL/Crete-Monee), but the Cougars would never catch nor surpass the Muskies for the rest of the day. Leading 9-5, the Muskies ran off 12 consecutive points capped by a pair of threes. Morgan Jahnke (Fox Lake, IL/Grant Community) momentarily halted Lakeland's momentum with CUC's first three of the day, but Thrune and Kayla Clark responded with threes to boost the visitors' lead to 27-8. The Cougars were unable to mount a charge due to some ice-cold shooting, and the Muskies held a comfortable 37-15 lead at the half. The Cougars' shooting improved in the second half, but they were unable to take more than a few points off of the Muskies' big lead. Lakeland continued to shoot well, connecting on five of their 10 shots from downtown to maintain their edge.
Leah Eisner led Lakeland with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Rachael Millner added 10 points. April Broska's (Belleville, MI/Lutheran South) nine points and three assists led the Cougars while Kassy Koehler (Belvidere, IL/Rockford Lutheran) scored eight points. Concordia will conclude the season Tuesday night at home versus Dominican University.
