Oct. 18, 2014 - The Concordia-Chicago volleyball team traveled to Marian University and Lakeland College this weekend hoping for a couple of wins that would get them back into the chase for a conference tournament berth. Instead, the Cougars lost both matches to fall to 5-20, 2-7 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Friday's match at Marian saw the Sabres clip the Cougars in three agonizingly close sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-21).
Kaylyn Anderson (East Chicago, IN/Whiting) recorded 10 kills and 11 digs for the Cougars while
Olivia Friedrichs (San Diego, CA/Clairemont) had six kills and 19 digs. However, Marian had a fine outing from Catelyn Brehm who had 11 kills, 11 digs and four aces. The latter stat was noteworthy in that the Sabres as a team reeled off 12 aces against the Cougars.
In Saturday night's match at Lakeland, the Muskies got off to a fast start by hitting .321 on 11 kills on their way to a 25-11 win. The Cougars looked to slow down the home team, utilizing virtually the entire bench in the process. However, Lakeland took the final two sets 25-13 and 25-15 to win the match in three.
Mary Arredia (Franklin Park, IL/West Leyden) led the Cougars with six kills while
Hannah Johnson (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) turned in a career-high 13 digs.
The Cougars return home to host Aurora University on Wednesday night.
