March 7, 2013 - The Concordia Cougar softball team ran up against a pair of tough opponents today at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. The 15-1 loss to Simpson College of Iowa and 9-0 loss to Muskingum University, both games shortened to five innings. put the team's record at 2-6 with two games remaining on Friday.

Simpson entered today's game as the hottest team in the tournament, having won 14 of their first 15 games, and the Storm continued to roll through Florida. A pair of doubles highlighted a four-run first. Simpson then played long ball in the second as a three-run clout by Hailey Jensen and solo shot by Kylie Van Houten helped the Iowans to an 11-0 lead.

Concordia plated their run in the bottom of the second. With Jenni Jensen (Chicago, IL/Luther North) on second, Sarah James (Riverside, IL/Riverside-Brookfield) collected the RBI with a single through the middle.

The Storm closed the scoring with a single run in the third and a three-run homer in the fourth by Chelsea Winegard.

In the nightcap against Muskingum from Ohio, the Muskies used back-to-back doubles in the first to grab a 3-0 lead. A single tally scored in the second, and Muskingum ended the game with five in the fifth, capped off by Heather Reese's three-run double.

The Cougars managed hits by Andrea kelly (Elk Grove, CA/Laguna Creek), Haley Kalinichenko (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon) and Hannah Solyom (Lombard, IL/Walther Lutheran) but stranded five for the game.

Concordia will close out the trip on Friday with games against Roger Williams University and Geneva College before returning home to Chicago.
