March 31, 2012 - The Concordias of Wisconsin and Chicago met on the softball diamond today for the first time since last May's opening-round game of the Northern Athletics Conference tournament. The Cougars prevailed that day 11-6, but the Falcons gained a measure of revenge today with 8-2 and 8-0 wins.
Concordia Wisconsin took a quick 2-0 lead in game one on Cara Landherr's two-run homer. However, the Cougars got one back in their initial at-bat. Olivia Hires (Denver, CO/Bear Creek) singled and scored with two out on Cassie Slechta's (Berwyn, IL/Walther Lutheran) single.
Slechta got the Cougars even in the third. Her base hit followed a walk to Moira Quinlan (Franklin Park, IL/East Leyden) and single by Taylor Golden (Chicago, IL/Trinity).
The Falcons took the lead for good in the fourth with three runs, two coming on a single by Jessica Liszka. They added another in the fifth and two in the seventh, the latter two runs coming on triples by Holly Zinnecker and Landherr.
In game two, the Falcons scored single runs in the first and third. They blew the game open with six in the fifth, two coming on a homer by Abbie Goetsch.
Concordia (4-14, 2-2 NAC) will look to bounce back on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
