Oct. 19, 2012 - The Concordia University Chicago volleyball team traveled to Mequon this evening with the aim of stopping their recent skid and improving to 2-0 this season against Concordia University Wisconsin. The Cougars had swept the Falcons in early September down in Texas, but the Falcons celebrated their Senior Night by turning the tables and beating the Cougars in three sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-18).
Hitting errors were the main contributing factor to the Cougars' loss. The team had a negative attack percentage with 24 kills against 33 errors. Several of the errors coincided with a strong net presence by the Falcons who recorded 11.5 team blocks tonight.
The blocking game was the bright spot of the night for the Cougars. Middle blocker
Bianca Gordon (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran) recorded seven blocks (three solo) as the Cougars scored nine points at the net.
Claire Mackey (Shelton, NE/Heartland Lutheran) led the Cougar hitters with 10 kills, followed by Gordon and
Sarah Brendel (Hazelwood, MO/Hazelwood West) with six each.
Concordia-Chicago returns home to honor their seniors on Wednesday night, Oct. 24 before they take on Alverno College.
