Sept. 30, 2011 - The Concordia Cougars saw their winning streak of three matches in Northern Athletics Conference play ended abruptly this evening with a three-set loss (15-25, 18-25, 13-25) to Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wisconsin. The Cougars fell to 7-10 (3-2 NAC) while the Crusaders improved to 11-2 (3-1 NAC).
The teams' hitting stats told the simple story of tonight's match. Concordia had hitting problems from the start, committing nine errors in set one and finishing the match with 25. By contrast, Maranatha hit .333 in the opening set with 14 kills against just four errors. Torey DeLozier led the Crusaders with 21 kills and a .459 attack, but she had help from middle hitter Laci Peterson who recorded 12 kills and a .407.
Sarah Potter (New Haven, IN/Woodlan) recorded 11 kills to pace the Cougars' attack.
Claire Mackey (Shelton, NE/Heartland Lutheran) and
Bianca Gordon (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran) followed with six and five kills respectively while setter
Savanna Ashbaugh (Waverly, IL/H.S.) handed out 20 assists.
Concordia will play four matches at home next week, beginning with a Wednesday night match versus the University of Chicago.
