Sami DeFord (South Bend, Ind.) of the softball team is honored for the week of April 25-May 1.

DeFord pitched 32 1/3 innings in six games last week (four starts) and compiled an ERA of 0.65. She pitched two shutouts among her four wins and allowed eight runs, three of them earned. DeFord struck out 26 batters while walking six, and opponents hit .232 off of her. For the season, DeFord has a 13-11 record with a 2.02 ERA in 159 2/3 innings.

DeFord, the daughter of Scott and Melanie DeFord, is a 2008 graduate of Marian High School in Mishiwaka, Ind. She is a sophomore secondary education major with a specialization in biology.
